Six-time world champion M.C. Mary Kom has decided not to participate in the trials for the upcoming IBA Elite Women's World Boxing Championships and the 2022 Asian Games, starting Monday. Wrote a letter to Boxing Federation of India informing the governing body about its decision to skip the World Meet and Asian Games. The IBA Women's World Boxing Championships is scheduled to be held in Istanbul, Turkey from May 6 to 21, while the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2022 Asian Games will begin on July 28 and September 10, respectively.
In a communication to the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), Mary Kom said, "I would like to take back the young generation to make their name on the international stage and get opportunities to gain experience and experience of major tournaments. The selection trials for all the 12 categories of the World Championship will begin on Monday and end on Wednesday. The trials will also include the weight categories of the Asian Games, which are similar to those of the IBA.

The selection committee comprising the BFI President or his nominee, along with an expert panel of eminently experienced boxers, will ensure the smooth conduct of the trials as all the bouts will be video-recorded.
The Asian Games selection trials for men will be held in May, while the Commonwealth Games trials for both men and women will be held in June.
However, for the remaining two Asian Games weight categories, 51 kg and 69 kg, separate trials will be held on March 11 and 14, allowing boxers in the nearest weight category to participate in trials for the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
