Indian Flag Bearers At Olympics - List

These athletes represented the country in the Olympics event.

More than 200 countries participate and compete in over 33 different sports at the Olympic Games. But before the start of this event all the athletes take part in the opening ceremony. Many Indians have been flag bearers in the Olympic Games. Between 1920 and 2020, many athletes participated in the Olympics and represented India. The opening ceremony includes artistic programs, a parade of nations, the lighting of the Olympic flame and the release of pigeons. The Parade of Nations is a major part of these celebrations. Most athletes enter the stadium as part of the parade, marking the country they represent. Each nation nominates a flag bearer for the occasion.

  • Balbir Singh Sr. received this honor twice in the 1952 and 1956 Summer Olympics.
  • Shiv Keshavan led the Indian team four times in the 1998, 2002, 2010 and 2018 Winter Olympics.
  • In the 1992 Summer Olympics, Shiny Abraham Wilson became the first woman to hoist the Indian flag at the opening ceremony of any Olympics.
