The AFC Asian Cup is the primary association football competition contested by senior men's national teams of members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), to determine the continental champions of Asia. It is the second oldest continental football championship in the world after the Copa America. The Asian Cup was organized for the first time in 1956. In the first four years the event was held, the winner was decided by a round-robin format.
