India's first medal in Paralympics was in the 1972 Games, in which Murlikant Petkar won the gold medal in swimming. India's best ever performance in the Tokyo Paralympics was 19 medals (5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze) in the 2020 Games. Ranked 24th in the Paralympic Games in the capital of Japan, while India won 31 medals (nine gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals) in the Paralympic Games.
