Dronacharya Award - Officially known as the Dronacharya Award for Outstanding Coaches in Sports and Games, the Dronacharya Award is a sports coaching honor of the Republic of India, given to outstanding coaches in sports and games for their mentorship. The award is named after Drona, often referred to as "Dronacharya" or "Guru Drona", a character from the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata of ancient India. He was skilled in advanced military warfare and was appointed as a guru to the Kaurava and Pandava princes for training them in military arts and weapons.
The Dronacharya Award is presented annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The recipients are selected by a committee constituted by the ministry and over a period of four years to "do outstanding and commendable work on a consistent basis and encourage sportspersons to excel in international events". capable of doing". Two awards are nominated for lifetime contribution to sports coaching, where achievements in producing an "outstanding sportsperson" over a period of 20 years or more are considered. As of 2020, the award consists of a bronze statuette of Dronacharya, a certificate, ceremonial dress and a cash prize.

Established in 1985, the award is given only to disciplines involved in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and World Cups as well as events such as cricket, indigenous sports and parasports. Nominations for a given year are accepted until 30 April or the last working day of April. A ten-member committee evaluates the nominations and subsequently submits its recommendations to the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports for further approval.
The first awardees were Bhalchandra Bhaskar Bhagwat (wrestling), Om Prakash Bhardwaj (Boxing) and O.M. Nambiar (Athletics), who was awarded in 1985. Usually no more than five coaches are awarded in a year, with a few exceptions (2012 and 2016–2020) when more recipients are honored in a year.
