Major achievements of PV Sindhu as world champion

Won historic bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020

PV Sindhu has become the fourth female shuttler to win consecutive Olympic medals. PV Sindhu has achieved coveted status in Indian badminton after winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Sindhu, whose full name is Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, both her parents were national level volleyball players. She first came to the national scene at the age of 18 after winning bronze at the 2013 World Championships, a feat not achieved since Prakash Padukone's bronze in 1983.
Sindhu has won a medal every time except in 2015. Though she always came close to winning the coveted title, she was crowned world champion only in 2019, where she defeated Japanese Nozomi Okuhara.

Sindhu went to Brazil at the 2016 Rio Olympics with little media glare, as not many expected her to win a medal for the country. But what happened next threw the entire cricket-crazy nation into frenzy as she reached the women's singles final, something no Indian had achieved before. Although she won a silver medal, Sindhu overnight became a role model for millions of Indians across the world. In recognition of his rare feet, the Government of India honored him with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, India's highest sporting honour, in 2016.

Sindhu not only became the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals, but also became the fourth female badminton player to win consecutive Olympic medals. After his consistent performances in the big tournaments, he has slowly gained the reputation of being a 'big tournament player.
