The Ryder Cup is a men's golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States and is a men's golf competition played every two years between teams from Europe and the United States, first played in 1927. There were tie matches in 1969 and 1989. Europe was won only once between 1935 and 1985. The English businessman Samuel Ryder who donated the trophy for this tournament was named "Ryder Cup".
