List of Grey Cup champions

List of Grey Cup champions...

The Gray Cup is both the name of the championship of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the trophy awarded to the winning team. The trophy is named after Albert Gray, the Governor General of Canada from the year 1904 to 1911. He donated the trophy to the Canadian Rugby Union in the year 1909 to recognize the top amateur rugby football team in Canada. By this time Canadian football had been markedly different from the rugby football from which it developed.
Although it was originally intended to only honor amateur teams (like the Stanley Cup), over time, the Gray Cup became a property of the Canadian Football League as it developed into a professional football league. By the year 1954, amateur teams stopped competing for the cup; Since 1965, the top amateur teams playing in Canada's Interuniversity Sport (CIS) have competed for the Vanier Cup. The Gray Cup Game is Canada's largest annual sports and television event, attracting approximately 4 million Canadian viewers. There are two awards given for playing in the game, the Dick Suderman Trophy as the Most Valuable Player and the Most Valuable Canadian Player.
