Young Indian Grandmaster R Pragyanandada has defeated Carlsen after losing three matches in a row. This is his first win against the Norwegian player. He is the youngest player of this tournament. The first day of this tournament was very bad for world champion Carlsen. He then made a spectacular comeback on the second day, but lost to R Pragyanananda. Pragyanananda is the youngest player of this tournament.
India's R Pragyanandada stunned world number one Magnus Carlsen in the eighth round of the online rapid chess tournament AirThings Masters. 16-year-old Praggnanandha played brilliantly in this match of the online rapid chess competition and registered his first win against Karlsson. Carlsen's performance in this tournament has been very poor and now he remains in fifth place. He won with black pieces in 39 moves in the Terrash variation game early on Monday and halted Carlsen's run of three consecutive wins.
The Indian GM is joint 12th with eight points after eight rounds. His impressive victory over Carlsen comes after a moderate run in the first round, which included a lone win, two draws and four losses over Lev Aronian. They drew against Anish Giri and Kwang Lim Le and lost to Erik Hansen, Ding Liren, Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.
Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi, who lost a world championship match to Norwegian world No 1 Carlsen a few months ago, is at the top with 19 points, followed by Ding Liren and Hansen (both with 15 points).
In AirThings Masters, a 16-player online rapid tournament, a player receives three points for a win and one point for a draw in the preliminary round. There are seven more rounds left in the preliminary stage. Carlsen has moved up from 11th place to fifth on the second day of the league. At the same time, after the victory, Pragyanand said that I think it is time to go to sleep comfortably.
