Indian Wrestler Vinesh Phogat
Vinesh Phogat, who comes from a successful family of India's most prestigious Phogat wrestlers, followed in the footsteps of her cousins Geeta and Babita Phogat to become a wrestler, her uncle Mahavir Singh Phogat introduced her to the sport at an early age. Got it done Vinesh is young and is currently emerging as one of the best wrestlers in India. She became the first Indian female wrestler to win gold in both the Commonwealth and Asian Games. Phogat became the first Indian athlete to be nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards in 2019. This year has won gold at the Poland Open. Vinesh Phogat was born on 24 August 1994. He was brought up in Balali village of Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana. Vinesh started wrestling at a young age while her cousin Geeta was establishing herself on the national stage, and is also an international wrestler and Commonwealth Games medalist. Vinesh has struggled with the social stereotypes of wrestling as a male-dominated sport. Vinesh's uncle, Mahavir Singh Phogat assisted and trained him to excel in his junior career.

Vinesh is the daughter of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat's younger brother Rajpal and cousin of wrestler Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari. Both his cousins have won gold medals in the 55 kg category at the Commonwealth Games.
In allowing his cousin and himself to pursue competitive wrestling, his father and uncle faced enormous pressure and opposition from the community in their village in Haryana. Was chosen to go against the morals and values of his community. Cousin Ritu Phogat is also an international level wrestler and has won a gold medal at the 2016 Commonwealth Wrestling Championships.
On 13 December 2018, she married her long time fellow wrestler Somveer Rathi from Bakht Khera village in Jind district, who is a two-time gold medalist in the National Championships. The couple has known each other since 2011 and both work for the Indian Railways where they met and fell in love.
His career-threatening anterior cruciate ligament ruptured in his knee at the Rio Olympics.

What are Vinesh Phogat's achievements?
- During the year 2013, he won a bronze medal under the 52 kg weight category in the Asian Championship 2013 (New Delhi). After this, she also won a silver medal during the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in Johannesburg, South Africa.
- Vinesh Phogat won the first gold medal during the year 2014. This year Vinesh brought laurels to the country by winning her first international gold medal in the Commonwealth Games in the 48 kg category. In this year itself, he also won bronze in the Asian Games.
- In the Asian Championship 2015, Vinesh won the Rajak medal and made her performance even better. His performance had started getting so good that Vinesh's name was counted among the Olympic medal winning candidates. However, she was injured in the final match, due to which she could not play.
- He underwent surgery after the injury and it took him 5 months to recover. After this, in the year 2017, Vinesh made a comeback in the Asian Wrestling Championship with a silver medal in the 55 kg weight category.
- During the year 2018, he continued his performance with the 50 kg weight category in Bishkek. In the same year, she not only won the gold medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games but also became the first Indian female wrestler to win gold at the Jakarta Asian Games.
- Vinesh Phogat won the bronze medal in the Asian Wrestling Championships during the year 2019 in the 53 kg weight category and also got a ticket for the Tokyo Olympics 2021. However, she could not win any medal.
- In the year 2020, he also won a gold medal.
- Vinesh Phogat was nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards during the year 2019 itself. She has become the first Indian to do so. Along with this, the Government of India has also honored him with the Arjuna Award for his contribution.
