Mithali Raj first Indian cricketer to cross 2000 T20I runs
Mithali Raj is the first Indian cricketer to cross the 2000 run mark in T20 International cricket. In the Women's Asia Cup T20 match against Sri Lanka, she became the first woman cricketer to score 2000 runs in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The opener achieved the feat in 75 matches during his innings of 23 runs.
Mithali Raj is also the seventh female cricketer to score more than 2000 career runs in the shortest format of the game. In 2017, Mithali Raj became the highest run-scorer in women's ODI cricket and she currently continues to top the table with 7391 runs. England great Charlotte Edwards is at the top second in the table with 5992 runs. Sarah Taylor of England is 5101 runs.
Mithali Raj made her debut in One Day International in 1999. The match took place in Milton Keynes, Ireland in which Mithali scored an unbeaten 114. He played the first test match against England in Lucknow in 2001-2002. When Mithali first appeared in an international test match, she was dismissed for a duck (zero) without scoring any run. But she showed ahead in her career on the strength of her hard work and set a record by scoring the highest score of 214 runs in international women's cricket till date. He made this record in 2002 while playing against England. This is the highest run record in women's cricket.
Mithali-led Indian team thrashed England by five wickets in the second Test at Taunton to win the two-match series 1-0. Thus the women's cricket team under Mithali's leadership defeated England on her own land.
He broke the record of Karen Bolton of Australia, who had set the record by scoring 209 runs. Mithali captained the Indian women's team in the 'Women's World Cup 2005'.
22-year-old Mithali Raj was awarded the 'Arjuna Award' on 21 September 2004 for her 2003 cricket achievements.
