Women's Hockey World is being organized since 1974. The tournament is organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The Women's Hockey World Cup is a field hockey World Cup competition for women, the format of which is the same as that of the men's qualification and final tournament. In 1982 it was merged into the International Women's Hockey Federations (IFWHA). Since 1986, the competition has been held regularly once every four years.
Women's Hockey World has held fourteen tournaments so far, with only four teams winning the tournament. The Netherlands have won the title eight times, the most successful team of all time, with Argentina, Germany and Australia being the joint second best teams, each having won the title twice. As of now, Netherlands and Australia are the two champions that have been able to defend their titles.
