The first edition of the Asia Cup was played in the United Arab Emirates in 1984. In which India and Sri Lanka met each other in the final match. The Men in Blue were crowned as the first Asia Cup winners. The second edition of the Asia Cup was played in 1986 with the runners-up of the first edition, Sri Lanka winning the cup this time by defeating Pakistan. India was the winner of 2018 by defeating Bangladesh in the final held in the United Arab Emirates.

Team India is the most successful team in Asia Cup, having won the cup seven times. Sri Lanka comes second after winning the prized trophy five times, while Pakistan has also won the Asia Cup twice. Bangladesh has reached the final of Asia Cup thrice but has not yet managed to lift the cup.

2022 T20 Asia Cup: A total of six teams including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and one more team between United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Hong Kong and Singapore are involved in the tournament. The six teams are divided into groups of two each, and the Asia Cup points table will determine which four teams will advance to the Super Four stage and later the final.
