The first tournament held in England, the West Indies team led by Clive Lloyd won all their 5 matches and were the champions in world cricket. He maintained his dominance till the next competition. He won 4 games in the 1979 Prudential World Cup and lifted the trophy once again.
The Cricket World Cup winners Indian team defeated defending champions West Indies twice, once in the league stage and in the final under Kapil Dev to win the trophy. Kapil Dev became the second World Cup winning captain.

They did the unthinkable after that, as they defeated defending champions Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand (twice, they also played a semi-final against them) and then defeated England in the final in Melbourne. Pakistan emerged as the new winning team as their captain Imran Khan led the team very well.
Under the leadership of Arjuna Ranatunga, Sri Lanka displayed their aggressive form of cricket and won all their matches by huge margins. They were awarded the semi-finals in Kolkata where the crowd turned violent as India were on the verge of defeat. With Sri Lanka winning, the world saw a new Cricket World Cup winning captain for the fourth time in a row.
The World Cup proved to be the first hat-trick of Cricket World Cup winners for Australia. Steve Waugh's team won it in 1999 and then under Ricky Ponting won the trophy in 2003 and 2007. From 1999 to 2007, the Australian team was in top form and played better cricket than any other team in the world.
MS Dhoni led India to their second World Cup victory after a gap of 28 years. The team was really inspired to win it thanks to Sachin Tendulkar who inspired the next generation of cricketers who produced players like Virat Kohli.
The World Cup champions Australia, led by their captain Michael Clarke, defeated New Zealand by 7 wickets in the final to win their fifth World Cup.
Eoin Morgan guided England to their maiden World Cup victory as they defeated New Zealand in the World Cup final. England's 2015 performance was disappointing and was restructured, which saw Eoin Morgan at the helm.
