संस्कृत भाषा में "बाह्या" का अर्थ "बाहर" से है, बाह्य प्राणायाम को अंग्रेजी में External Retention (“बाहरी साँस का योगा”) कहा जाता है। अथार्त इस प्राणायाम में शरीर को विभिन्न बंधों में रखने से पहले सांस को पूरी तरह से बाहर निकाला जाता है। तब व्यक्ति कपालभाति करता है, तभी उसकी मूलाधार चक्र की शक्ति जागृत होती है और उस जागृत हुई अमूल्य शक्ति का उर्धारोहण (उर्ध + आरोहण) करने के लिए “बाह्य प्राणायाम”किया जाता है। इसे प्राणायाम में मूल बंध, उड्डियान बंध और जलंधर बंध का उपयोग होता है।

बाह्य प्राणायाम कैसे करें?

बाह्य प्राणायाम के अभ्यास के लिए step by step निर्देश दिए गए हैं। ध्यान से पढ़े !
  • सर्वप्रथम सुखासन, सिद्धासन, पद्मासन, वज्रासन में बैठें।
  • अपनी ऊँगली को वायु मुद्रा में रखे ।
  • साँस को पूरी तरह बाहर निकालने के बाद साँस बाहर ही रोके रखने के बाद तीन बन्ध लगाते हैं। साथ ही साथ मलद्वार को सिकुड़े।
  • मूल बन्ध :- हमारी मल विसर्जन करने की जगह को पूरी तरह ऊपर की तरफ खींचना है।
  • उड़ड्यान बन्ध :- पेट को पूरी तरह अन्दर पीठ की तरफ खींचना है।
  • जालंधर बन्ध :- अपने गले को पूरा सिकोड कर ठोडी को छाती से सटा कर रखना है।
  • आप सहज महसूस करे तब तक इन सभी बंदों को पकड़ें और फिर सभी को गहरी साँस के साथ छोड़ें।
  • आराम करें और प्रक्रिया को 3-4 बार दोहराएं।

    • ध्यान दे !

  • अगर बाह्य प्राणायाम करना अभी शुरू ही किया है तो आप इसका अभ्यास आप 5-7 मिनट तक ही करें क्यूंकि इस प्राणायाम की समय अविधि एक साथ नहीं बढ़ानी चाहिए।
  • इस प्राणायाम का अभ्यास सुबह और शाम के समय खाली पेट अधिक फलदायी होता हैं।
  • सामान्य व्यक्ति को बाह्य प्राणायाम शुरुआत में चार से छह बार करना चाहिए। फिर कुछ समय तक निरंतर अभ्यास करते रहने के बाद इसे बढ़ा देना चाहिए।

    • बाह्या प्राणायाम में सावधानियां:

  • उच्च रक्तचाप से पीड़ित लोंगो को इसके अभ्यास से बचना चाहिए।
  • गर्भवती महिलाओं या महिलाओं को (मासिक धर्म) के दौरान इसका अभ्यास नहीं करना चाहिए।
  • हृदय या सांस से संबंधित बीमारियां से पीड़ित व्यक्ति इस न करे।

    • बाह्य प्राणायाम के लाभ:

    1. श्वास प्राणायाम को खाली पेट होने पर करना चाहिए ।
    2. बाह्य प्राणायाम में उड्डियान बंध में पेट की मांसपेशियों को खींचाव मिलता है, जिसे पाचन बेहतर होता है। गैस, एसिडिटी और कब्ज जैसी पेट की सभी समस्याऐ मिट जाती हैं।
    3. यह मधुमेह में लाभदायक है।
    4. हर्निया पूरी तरह ठीक हो जाता है।
    5. बाह्या प्राणायाम में पेट, जिगर, गुर्दा और गर्भाशय आदि जैसे आंतरिक अंगों को रक्त की आपूर्ति बन्धनों से मुक्त होने पर मिलती है। जिसे जिससे इन अंगों से संबंधित विभिन्न बीमारियों को नियंत्रित किया जा सकता है।
    6. मन की एकाग्रता और स्मृति के स्तर में सुधार करने में मदद करता है।
    7. इसके अभ्यास से विभिन्न मांसपेशियों और जोड़ों के लचीलेपन और ताकत में सुधार होता है।
    8. बाह्य प्राणायाम से व्यंधत्व (संतान हीनता) से छुटकारा मिलने में भी सहायक है।
