A basic boxing guide for beginner boxers. Before you get into boxing, here are some top tips for getting started in the game, which is ideal for a beginner.

  • Find a good gym with experienced coaches for boxing- Your priority should be safety in boxing.
  • Develop Some Cardio - such asrunning, cycling andskipping are great ways for boxers to increase stamina and improve footwork.
  • Practice proper footwork - Boxing is more than standing still and throwing punches. It is a high-stakes chess match where participants repeatedly change levels, speeds and directions to hit the ground and avoid attacks. For this you will need full footwork practice. Shadow boxing,jumping ropeand circling cones will be important as you learn to move and punch effectively at the same time.
  • Hit the Heavy Bag Correctly - The main purpose of a heavy bag is to develop power in your punches. The power of punching comes from the understanding that the punch is coming not just from your hands or shoulders, but from your entire body.
  • Build muscle - Weight training, sit-ups, pull-ups, dips and push-ups all help boxers build that all-important muscle mass.
  • Spoil with boxers - If you're fighting, try sparing with someone who is at an equal skill level.
  • Boxing with Reflection - Practicing your skills in front of the mirror and focusing on defense skills that improve the techniques is extremely beneficial. To perform shadowboxing, the boxer must have a mental picture of his opponent.
  • Switch boxed stance - Changing the front leg helps the boxer become more versatile and is able to change tactics when needed.
  • Eating healthy - A bad diet can ruin everything for which you have worked during those hard training days.
  • Exhale - Exhale while punching. If the opponent manages to counter your stomach by filling your lungs, then it is enough to get most people to their knees.
  • Learn to wrap hands for boxing - Helps prevent hand injuries that take too much punishment. It is best to get a good pair of well-padded bag gloves.
  • Avoid overtraining - Constant punching stresses your joints, bones, and muscles. This particularly stresses the tendons and ligaments, so heavy bags should leave plenty of time between sessions.
  • Train to win - During training, train as if you are training for the world's heavyweight championship. Your opponent is not likely to give you any mercy, so train as if your life depends on him.

Getting involved with boxing:

The clubs provide training in boxing by fully qualified trainers, as well as fitness and resistance training. Clubs welcome beginners. Club members are never competitively forced to box. In fact, relatively few people box competitively, but there are many opportunities for those who want (and are good enough).
