Parupalli Kashyap Biography
Parupalli Kashyap is an Indian badminton player who was born on 8 September 1986 in Hyderabad, India and is now 36 years old as of 2022. He is a right-handed shuttler who has a high command of his powerful smash shots on the court. He is the first Indian male to reach the quarterfinals in an Olympic badminton event. He did his schooling in Hyderabad, India. At the age of 11, Kashyap Parupalli first enrolled in SM Arif's training camp. Kashyap's father has a government job and has a transferable job, so his family moves to another city, Film City. In 2004, Kashyap Parupalli joined Padukone Academy. He coached under both former All England champions Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand, the latter becoming their full-time coach.
Parupalli Kashyap used to play badminton as a recreational sport and became very good at it with time. So, at the age of 11, his parents enrolled him in a training camp in Hyderabad, which was organized by S.M. Arif This training camp was where Parupalli started his professional badminton training.
During his training at Padukone Academy, Bangalore in the initial years, he suffered from asthma. This could have ended his career then and there but Parupalli returned to Hyderabad and trained under former badminton star Pullela Gopichand. He revived his career and plays with a Therapeutic Use Exemption Certificate from the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Professional Career
Parupalli Kashyap has performed at the national and international level since 2005 and 2006. He won the gold medal in the boys' singles event of the 2005 National Junior Open Badminton Championship.
In 2006, Parupalli Kashyap participated in the Hong Kong Open Badminton where he reached the pre-quarterfinals. Parupalli reached the semi-finals of the Bitburger Open by defeating the then No. 19 player, Przemyso Vacha. It was the first major victory on the international stage. After this victory, his world ranking improved and he reached 64th position. A similar victory came for him in the 33rd National Games where Parupalli defeated the then national champion Chetan Anand of India to win the gold medal.
Kashyap also won bronze medals at the 2008 Dutch Open and 2009 Senior National Badminton Championships. Singapore reached the semi-finals of the Super Series.
Parupalli Kashyap won a bronze medal for India in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and made the country proud. He won a silver medal in the mixed team event of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He also reached the semi-finals of the 2010 India Open Grand Prix.
In 2012, Parupalli Kashyap reached the semi-finals of the 2012 Dejaram Indonesia Open. Parupalli Kashyap suffered a defeat in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Summer Olympics. Parupalli lost the Olympics, yet created history by becoming the first Indian athlete to reach this level at the Olympics. Parupalli had secured his major tournament victory. He won a gold medal at the 2012 Sir Syed Modi International India Grand Prix Gold. He improved in several categories after his 2013 victory in Korea. And he ranked 10th in the world. According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings in April 2013, Parupalli Kashyap finished sixth despite his superior performance in the match he played against Tawfiq Hidayat of Indonesia.
His second international gold medal came at the 2014 Glasgow Asian Games where he showed his best skills. In 1982, 32 years after Syed Modi's victory, India won the gold medal in the men's singles series.
In 2015, he won the Syed Modi International Badminton Championship which was one of his notable achievements. His latest tournament win is a gold medal at the 2018 Australian Badminton Open.
Parupalli Kashyap had her dream of winning a medal in 2016 Olympics due to surgery on her right knee just before the Olympics. He made a rapid recovery during a match in the Premier Badminton League in 2017 but again dislocated his shoulder. Since then, Kashyap has reduced his presence in the tournament.
