Captains with Most Test Runs...
Test cricket, the longest format of the game, assesses your character, temperament, consistency, patience, skill and determination. Being the captain of a Test cricket team and still maintaining an excellent form is always under pressure. Because the captain of the test cricket team has to take all the decisions of the match and he is judged for all his calls on the field. Few captains have always taken the privilege of captaining their team to lift the morale of the team and lead from the front by scoring runs against all odds. This quality also helps other players in the team to play positively. Let's take a look at the list of players who have scored the most Test runs as captain among active cricketers.
Graeme Smith :- was called 'Biff' for his ability to remove leather from cricket balls. He took over the responsibility of being the captain of South Africa at the young age of 22. He set an example as a captain. The best example of this was the Sydney Test (2009) when he played the game with a broken hand. He did not win, but the cricket community was praising his bravery. In his twelve-year Test cricket career, he scored a total of 8,659 runs with the highest score of 277.
Allan Border :- has turned Australia into a team that is feared and respected. Border's first Test century was against Pakistan. His maiden century saw Australia not win the match. In fact, the Aussies were sent home for 310, while they needed 382. His performance was noticed and widely praised in the cricketing world. When his Test cricket career ended in 1994, he had scored 6,623 runs.
Ricky Ponting :- is one of the best captains of Australia. Three World Cup titles (as a captain), a few Champions Trophy, up to the top Test rankings, he had it all as a captain. Ponting had a free-wheeling stroke-play that helped him score runs and destroy opposition bowlers, as there were none. In a career spanning seventeen years, his total Test runs were 6542, including the highest score of 209 and an average of 51.
The Test captaincy was handed over to Virat Kohli in 2011. When he started playing against Australia, the first two Tests showed a clear lack of technique to play on a bouncy wicket. His performance in the third Test was a successful performance. With the score of 75 runs, there was a significant change in technique. His total Test runs are still going strong with 5,864 runs, and his highest ever score of 254.
