Some facts:

  • The first IIHF World Junior Championship official tournament was held in 1977, although the first three tournaments from 1974 to 1976 were held unofficially.
  • In 2024, the World Juniors Hockey Tournament will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden from December 26, 2023 to January 5, 2024.
  • The 2023 edition is the Junior Hockey World Champions Canada. They earned their 20th championship title by defeating the Czech Republic 3–2 in overtime in the gold medal game.
  • Team Canada is the most successful team at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships, leading the all-time gold medal count with 20 gold.
  • The Soviet Union, the CIS and Russia have a combined 13 gold.
  • The IIHF World U20 Hockey Championships, commonly known as the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, is held annually, usually in late December, ending in early January.
