BWF World Championship Winners Complete List of Champions Since 1977

The World Badminton Championships is also known as BWF World Championships or IBF World Championships. It is organized by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The BWF World Championships, a major competition for badminton players from all over the world, is being held since 1977 and the winners are rewarded with gold medals. Beginning as an event held once every three years, the fourth edition of the World Championships has been held once every two years since 1985 and continued until 2005, after which it became an annual event.
The categories - men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles - are contested in knock-out formats, with the winners gold, runners-up silver and the losing semi-finalists each taking bronze.
China is the most successful national team/player, having dominated the tournament, winning a total of 191 medals including 67 gold, 47 silver and 79 bronze medals. In second place is Indonesia, with 77 medals (23 gold, 18 silver, 36 bronze), followed by Denmark with 62.5 medals (10.5 gold, 14 silver, 38 bronze). The BWF organized 26 editions of the tournament, with the 27th edition scheduled to be held in Japan from August 21.
